Blarg are in love with many different styles. Their music oscillates from Psychedelic Rock to Surf, from New Wave back to Rock’n'Roll. The combining element for all is maybe an endearing manner of eccentricity, which becomes sound in form of shrill vocals, noisy fuzz guitars and opulent rock drums. To say it with a tongue twister: “Blarg are crashy catchy, tasty trashy!”

During a placement the two friends Theo and Tom had to work together in a windowless room putting flyers into envelopes lasting for weeks. The only ray of hope was to listen to Psychedelic Rock by the japanese band Yura Yura Teikoku. After this intensive musical experience, they both decided to create something own and unique.

Now, 10 years later they still make music together, with the goal to create songs for the outsiders of the outsiders. Based on influences like Psychedelic Rock, Noise, Electronic, Pop, Experimental and Trap Music they develope their DIY sound as well as a visual aesthetic, which is always well synced to the music. Blarg’s works have rough edges, but always soul.

Unfortunately right from the beginning it was hard for them to share this strange sort of music with others, which often consists of clipping noise solos and scratch table bass guitars. It seemed as they were all alone in their universe.

After moving to Cologne in 2013 and losing their labour trying to find a drummer for the band, they started to record their first bunch of songs. And to be able to play live without a drummer, they bought a pedal board with the option of playing backing tracks. Then they also dressed up a skeleton called “Frankie”, which now acts as a mascot same, as it stands symbolically and meaningfully for the absent drummer.

The frontman/bassist Theo uses multiple vocal and bass effects to create a wall of voices. His normal singing voice is nothing special, but when he switches to his head voice it seems, as if there is no ceiling holding him down anymore. The guitarist Tom, hiding his face behind a layer of hair, adds the most beautiful soundscapes with chiming sounds, which comes straight out of heaven, just to again switch to fuzzy solos, suitable to drive out the devil, who has posessed him recently while playing.
